Leadership Team

David McCombie

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

As a consultant and advisor with an extensive financial and legal background, David McCombie helps owners of mid-market businesses develop successful strategies to meet their goals.  He has deep relationships with private equity funds and family offices, building mutually beneficial financial partnerships. 

Known for his visionary thinking on financial topics involving private equity and family offices, David has been a featured speaker at various investment conferences and has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. He is also a contributing author of The Complete Direct Investing Handbook: A Guide for Family Offices, Qualified Purchasers, and Accredited Investors, published by Wiley.

Prior to founding McCombie Group in 2010, David was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company management, specializing in corporate strategy across a variety of industries. In 2009, he was selected as a McKinsey Global Institute Fellow to develop the firm‘s regulatory capabilities (approximately 10 of 10,000 McKinsey consultants are selected each year). Prior to joining McKinsey, he briefly worked as an associate at Citigroup Global Banking in New York.

David graduated from Harvard Law School where he focused on corporate law and negotiation strategy, and also did extensive coursework in corporate finance at the Harvard Business School. He also graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Miami with a degree in economics/finance. David is a licensed Florida attorney.

Jay S. Lipsey


Jay Lipsey has nearly 20 years of experience in corporate finance, real estate, and strategic consulting across a variety of industries.  He started his career in the debt capital markets group of National City Bank (now part of PNC), where he syndicated bank loans on behalf of borrowers in the manufacturing, food and beverage, and aviation sectors. 

Jay was an asset manager at D.B. Zwirn, a $4 billion hedge fund focused on private equity sponsored transactions, and co-led the finance department of Cargo Ventures, a nationwide real estate developer of logistics facilities, and served as an asset manager at Rialto Capital Advisors, a subsidiary of Lennar, the largest homebuilder in the United States.

Active in numerous community and charitable organizations, Jay is co-founder of the James Madison Institute Young Leaders Council, and leads its South-Florida chapter. While in New York, he co-launched the B’nai Brith Real Estate Young Development Group and was instrumental in the establishment of the New York Private Equity Network’s real estate division. Both the Memphis Jewish Federation and the University of Pennsylvania Health System have recognized Jay for distinguished community service. Jay graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.




Ramiro A. Ortiz

Senior Advisor

Ramiro A. Ortiz assists the firm’s South Florida business development efforts.  Ramiro has nearly 50 years of leadership, operations, and sales experience, serving as a senior executive in various South Florida institutions, including as president of BankUnited and SunTrust Bank.  

Ramiro is dedicated to the community, and has served as chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, co-chair of the United Way of Miami Dade County, and as an elected member of the Orange Bowl Committee, among numerous other civic roles. Ramiro is a graduate of the School of Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin.







Rob Regan


Robert Regan leads the firm’s deal origination efforts. He was previously an investment banker and brings over 20 years of experience building and leading teams across diverse government and commercial industries with an emphasis on strategy, operations, and finance. 

Rob served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed an accomplished career leading and managing complex national security programs and projects for the United States Department of Defense. He earned his M.B.A. from the George Mason University School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Virginia Tech.
